WeizsäckerErnst Ulrich v. Weizäcker, member of the World Commission on the Social Dimensions of Globalisation (the ILO), the Club of Rome and Chair of the corresponding Inquiry Commission of the Federal Republic's Parliament, will give a talk on the impact of globalization on Germany and the world. In his lecture Mr. v. Weizäcker will refer to the findings and recommendations of the Parliamentary Commission. The rather critical content has recently been released. Also speaking will beProf. Dr. Patrick Bond from the Wits Graduate School of Public and Developement Management, who will present the South African perspective on the issue.A discussion will then ensue.Refreshments will be served. 2.30 for 3.00 - 6.00 pm Young peoples' involvement in saving the environment!Price-giving ceremony, film-launch and various presentations on young people taking environmental action· The largest TV-station in Germany (WDR) originated a competition, "Future-Online-Award", on young peoples' projects for sustainable development and their presentation on the Internet of which some have already been utilized at various German and African schools. The most innovative and trail-blazing projects are to be exhibited at the Goethe Institut. Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer, head of the UN-environmental agency and former Minister of Environment for the Federal Republic of Germany, will attend the prize winners' presentation. Three 5 minute films which are to be shown at the Sithengi - CBFA Childrens Broadcasting Festival, Cape Town in November dealing with the empowering of socially disadvantaged children to protecting the environment. Young learners from various South African schools will also participate and offer their own presentations. Ulrich Loser, hydrologist from the Department of Water and Forestry, will deliver a lecture on river-health with water sample specimens and expound on the latest developments in water-treatments. Steffen Naumann-Delmare, Managing Director of Lubombo Infrastructure Development (Ptv) Ltd., will give a talk on the latest developments in water management.
