Nat Geo Music Live 2010: An environment-friendly concert to raise awareness for Earth Day
(Konzert)
Wann? 22.04.2010 - 8:00pm
Wo? I-** Roma, Circo Massimo, in the heart of Rome
Was? On 22 April, the United Nations World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) will join Nat Geo Music and other partners to celebrate Earth Day 2010 with live music and original initiatives to raise awareness of the public about current and future environment challenges.

Nat Geo Music Live 2010, a large and free concert organized by Nat Geo Music in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Youth, the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Municipality and Province of Rome in the heart of Italy's capital on the occasion of the 40th Earth Day conveys messages for the preservation of our planet's environmental resources.

WWAP will contribute important messages to the event which bring to mind the challenges of conserving our freshwater resources and its biodiversity. Freshwater is our planet's most important natural resource. Humans depend upon healthy freshwater ecosystems for drinking water, food, fiber for clothing, medicine, climate regulation, flood and natural disaster mitigation, and nutrient recycling. The conservation of these ecosystems and their biodiversity is essential to our lives and our well-being! However, human activities put our waters at risk and the world's freshwater ecosystems lost half of their populations between 1970 and 2000 according to the Living Planet Index.

Nat Geo Music Live 2010 features live music - with national and international artists, namely Pino Daniele, Morcheeba, Rokya Traore, DDG featuring Josh and Cora Dunham and DJ Claudio Coccoluto; amazing images from National Geographic Channel and environment-friendly messages and initiatives. In particular, the event's initiative to ensure Zero Impact® on the environment is granted thanks to the promotion of public transportation, car sharing and bike renting to reach the concert location, as well as waste-sorting and incentives to limit waste dissemination in the area (such as a special deposit for beverage cups). 202.000sqm of forest will be also be planted in Madagascar to compensate for the estimated 544.000kg of CO2 emissions to be generated by the event and 10.000sqm of additional green spaces will be created in Rome's Parco dell'Aguzzano.

Earth Day is an international day aimed to raise awareness on environmental issues and stimulate actions to preserve our planet. The United Nations first celebrated Earth Day on the spring equinox in 1971 and Earth Day is celebrated in many countries every year.

2010 is also the International Year of Biodiversity of the United Nations, and celebrates life on earth and the value of biodiversity for our lives.

Nat Geo Music Live 2010 will take place at 8:00pm on Circo Massimo, in the heart of Rome. The event will be transmitted in live in Italy on Nat Geo Music and Cielo TV channels and LifeGate Radio, throughout Europe and Asia on 17 Nat Geo Music Channels, and around the world on National Geographic Channels available in about 170 countries. It will also be webcasted at www.myspace.com/natgeomusic.
