German Materials Efficiency Prize 2008

Was? The cost of materials is of substantial importance for the competitiveness of German industry. In any manufacturing industry, material costs estimated to be approximately 42 percent represent the greatest cost component, exceeding personnel costs by more than twice (19 percent). The German Materials Efficiency Prize will be awarded by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology for the fifth time this year. Medium-size enterprises, which have increased their materials efficiency by innovative solutions in development, design, production and organization, can apply for the award up to 1 September 2008.

10,000 euro will be granted to each of the five best concepts. The award ceremony will take place within a conference on the improvement of materials and energy efficiency of medium-size enterprises in Berlin on 16 October 2008.

The BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing has been commissioned to manage this competition. Contact partner is Dr. Franz-Georg Simon, member in the advisory panel of the German Materials Efficiency Agency (Deutsche Materialeffizienzagentur) and Head of BAM Division IV.3 Waste Treatment and Remedial Engineering.
