Berlin Climate Law Conference 2008
(Kongress)
Wann? 25.07.2008 - 25.07.2008
Wo? D-14052 Berlin, International Club Berlin (ICB), Thüringer Allee 5-11,
Was? The Berlin Climate Law Conference 2008 is amongthe first of its kind and will bring together experts from the legal discipline and other stakeholders for a discussion on the legal dimensions of climate change. It responds to the growing significance of the law as a necessary framework to operationalise climate policies and create predictability and stability in the rapidly growing carbon market.

In 2008, the conference will focus on the future of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme. On 23 January 2008, the European Commission published its long-expected climate package, proposing a range of legislative measures to facilitate the achievement of the ambitious long-term objectives set out for European climate policy. One cornerstone of this package is a major revision of the European Emissions Trading Scheme, with fundamental implications for the scope and coverage of the scheme, the allocation of allowances, and the role of international offset projects and links to other domestic trading schemes. The legal repercussions of this package will likely be significant, calling for an active and timely debate between practitioners, academics and affected stakeholders.
