This year's conference theme is intended to promote discussion of urban livability, mixed-use development, local agriculture, pedestrianization, strong neighborhoods, accessible public space, and sustainable transportation. View it here: www.carfreeportland.org/program/draft We are excited to announce that Gil Penalosa, a pioneer of Bogota's carfree ciclovia movement and executive director of the Canadian organization Walk and Bike for Life will deliver a keynote speech on Tuesday, June 17th, our free public day. Schedule Monday, June 16: Early registration Depaving activity and registration 11:00 Address and pavementbreaking by US Representative Earl Blumenauer 12:00 Lunch and informal discussion with Rep. Blumenauer Tuesday, June 17: Public Day All program elements on Tuesday will be free and open to the public. 9:00 - 12:00: Plenary session and opening keynote speech; presentations 1:00 - 3:30: Presentations and panels 4:00 - 8:00: Reception and international carfree-themed art show in City Hall Wednesday, June 18: 9:00 - 5:00: Panels, presentations, workshops, and/or guided tours of Portland's transportation and urban design 8:00: Movie night Thursday, June 19: 9:00 - 5:00: Panels, presentations, workshops, and/or guided tours of Portland's transportation and urban design 8:00: Closing party featuring old time square dancing in the street Friday, June 20: 9:00 - 6:00: Annual General Meeting of the World Carfree Network (open to the public) Sunday, June 22: 8:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.: Sunday Parkways Portland will celebrate its first ever ciclovia-style street closure. The proposed route will close six miles of streets for Portlanders to walk, bike, run, stroll, and roller blade along the route to activities in the parks as well as to nearby shops and businesses in the vicinity. |
